I’m Galbraith, a self-taught student of music who as of now has almost no musical knowledge at all and is trying to learn the ways of musical composition. I have had some experience with playing the violin and also know the very basics of playing the piano. I can read sheet music, but at the time of writing this post I have no knowledge of musical composition whatsoever, which is what I mainly intend to improve upon.
I hope that by writing this blog I will come into contact with people who are trying to learn to compose just like me and hopefully this will keep me motivated to continue on my journey. Presently I plan to use William Russo’s Composing: A New Approach for learning the craft, but I believe I will change resources a few times as I have only recently begun my studies and know very little about what material is best for beginners. I do find this author’s approach interesting, however, and I believe it will keep me busy for some time.
